Are perceptions of grandparenthood related to family and life satisfaction? A study with emerging adults

Given the crucial role that grandparents play in upbringing and well-being of their grandchildren, research regarding perceived importance for emerging adult grandchildren is particular relevance. This study examined relations between grandparents’ roles family life satisfaction Portuguese adults. Participants (N = 387), aged 18–25, completed a structured self-report questionnaire. Findings structural equation modeling showed adults’ perceptions grandparental counselor, enjoying relationship, indulgence are positively related to satisfaction. The mediation analysis mediated relation acting as counselors grandchildren. Implications relationships grandparenting context adulthood discussed.
